By way of a change Ill try and do some reviews from time to time.

I got the ruckie recently after hearing favourable Mutterings in the angling fraternity, I have owned many ruckies and find they get wet and the zips go, and othen when hit with swell or waves with my newly aqquired style of lure fishing.

As I also have a small boat I was constantly finding it getting soaked on deck.

So far I am very impressed not really used it in earnest yet, but been out in the pouring rain and contents were totally dry. It is pretty damn watertight, with great strapping, inc chest and belly straps to keep it secure. for the record I hae the 20 ltr premium version.

It may be a bit of a pain long term as you physically have to unroll it to get in for lure changes but I think a small price to pay.

Acid test, would I buy another? I think this is the best Rucky out there for fishing and for keeping contents dry so yes I would. As a total bonus I got mine 2nd hand, but new with tags form ebay for…………… £12.99 delivered.

Been a long time since my last post, I kindo got out of the run of it TBH.

But back with a vengance now.

I had a really bad run for a while although targeting Bass on lures is not the best way to catch in qty, at my stage of knowledge, as I am still learning the art of Plugging, its the most fun and challenging.

I persevered and on 26/10/11 I took a newbie to a local ish mark

A HUGE swell and conditions looked good if not a little too good!! Massive swell, we had a few casts where I caught my biggie previously, and we were literally running back from the waters edge to avoid a soaking.

I walked along the beach trying different lures and areas, giving up on emptying my water filled wellies and happily squelching about the beach.

I re joined Tim at the left hand side of the beach and switched to my Megabass SW140 think it’s the sardine style with red belly.

After 3 hours and about 12 trips with my new Diawa rod not catching any fish, I felt the familiar thump, thump of a fish, the reel screamed for about 3 seconds as I lifted the rod tip into her, FISH ON!!

The swell and surf was thumping in, and I called to Tim I had a nice fish on, 2-3 lbs I reckon I told Tim.

She came in with a swell after hardly any fight after the initial run, and was landed on the beach treble nicely in the bottom lip, as I went to retrieve her and another swell covered her with water a brief few second and she was beached again.

Actually it looks a bit bigger may go to 4 if not 5lbs!!!

Got my little scales out tried to put the slippery devil into a carrier bag which was more like a circus juggler act, resulting in a good gilling across my finger and thumb.

Tim called the weight at spot on 5lbs and snapped away. Previous PB was 4lb 7oz so chuffed to hell. When I weighed it the scales weighed light and on proper scales it added about 4 oz, so I was hoping she may be nearer 5.5, when I rechecked the scales accuracy at home it seemed to be spot on so 5lbs it was.

Dehooked and put her back into the sea and off she went, for me to catch when she gets to 10lb so we can play again.

Unfortunately no further fish were caught but I still have the grin on my face now 7 weeks on.
Returned home to the irony that I had just released a Bass and the wife had my dinner on the table, fishfinger and chips, after the lord mayors show, comes the dustcart!! Still what the hell I like fishfingers!!

From then tll now I have been about 3 times and nothing to report, although Bass are still being caught on soft plastics at this time Dec 10th. So may have a couple more tries this year.

Up with the Sparrows and off to a local mark for Bass with a bucketfull of live Prawn.
Getting a bit despondent with lure fishing so thought I would go back to it Old Skool!!
4 hour and 1 squid to show for it, had a couple of real small bites and saw a couple of shoals of Bass swimming about but all small.

Evening time off to a local beach with Lures met up with Matt and Dave form TLF nothing for me, Dave had 3 Mackies and Matt had a take on a lure.

Pretty shite really, good thing is the temp though, was fishing in a polo shirt last night!!

Had a stroll up the river using HP’s, nothing!!
Saw 1 fish move but nothing else.
No bloody fish again, my get some live Prawn next week!!

2 Oct 2011 Cornwall Lure Forum meet. 09:00 – 14:00 & Local River

Met at a cafe with about 30 other memebrs form the lure forum for an annual bumbe.
Wendy and I went to the far end of the area, down a steep goat path.
We had nothing, and we did not see a fish landed, there were only about 5 caught we hear.
We did see a RAF heli and Lifeboat come to tha aid of a diver who took a turn for the worse, good job fellas, hope he was OK.
We bailed about 14:00 too damn hot and no fish.

We went out again to a local river a hot spot I have not taken Wendy to before, we saw a few but again no fish.

Went along to a local river and had a nice walk about 1 mile.
Wendy and I fished with lures and not a touch.
Brand new Patchinko too, casts like a bullet!!

Fished for a few hours with spinners and lures, had one bite on a Disco worm but he got off.

Nothing else.
